Curriculum

Our curriculum is called Lyrically Living. We intend to allow students time for a Brain Break before entering the classroom to leave behind any stress and after the class to allow students to prepare to go home. We also plan to have students journal about the strengths and weaknesses they found during the class and share them with others. This will prompt honesty and acceptance as well as letting students know that they are not alone in their struggles. We will promote community by having the students give each other compliments after sharing their journals.

Ideal Studio

 Lauren -  My ideal studio would be in an isolated area with lots of surrounding nature. I'd like to have windows filling each room so student may feel as though they are outside and connected to the world around them. I would want to only have one wall with mirrors in each studio. While it can be beneficial to see the position of your body and your classmates, I also believe it is important to focus less on the physical appearance and more on the emotional expression. During classes, I would like to spend a lot of time working on improv and would encourage students to face away from the mirror. I believe this would facilitate more exploration of the body and movement without fear of "looking silly." I'd also like my student to have a rooftop meditation area where students could go to relax and relieve their stress before or after class. Course

Title: Ballet Class Component: Movement Skills and Underlying Principles Objective: Demonstrates control in producing motion and stillness Competency: After listening to a fast tempo musical composition and a slow tempo musical composition, the student can demonstrate four nonlocomotor skills that correspond with the tempos Key Concept: Allow young students to explore the power of being still and the ways to express themselves through motion Activity: Have all students stand in a circle. The first student begins with one type of movement. Then they freeze in a pose. The next student picks up on the type of movement and performs their own set of motion. Then they freeze in a pose.
