Date: November 16,
2022
Time: 1-1:30pm
Component: Movement
Skills and Underlying Principles
Objectives:
Demonstrates locomotor skills: walking, running, leaping, jumping, hopping,
skipping, sliding, galloping, rolling, crawling.
Competency: The
student can solve a movement problem by using three levels of space (low,
middle, high) to demonstrate straight and curved pathways, and at least three
body shapes.
Overview: This class will focus on teaching basic steps in ballet by relating each motion to a typical day at the beach.
Warm-Up
Plies: Students will warm-up the joints of
the legs by performing grand plies. When going down into the plie, students
will scoop their arms as though they are grabbing a bunch of sand. As they
stretch up, they will move their arms as though they are carrying the sand and
placing it onto a sandcastle to form a tower. This will be repeated four times.
Finally, the students will go down into a plie again to pick up a flag and
releve at the top of their stretch to place the flag at the top of the
sandcastle.
Rond de Jambes: Students will warm-up
their feet by performing rond de jambes. They will push their feet forward
through the sand and swing it around their body as if creating a moat around
their sandcastle. This will be performed four times for each side, en dedans
and en dehors.
Across the Floor
Walks: Students will practice their ballet
walks by slowly walking across the floor as though they are pushing through the
waves of the ocean.
Galloping: Students will practice their
gallops by going across the floor as if they are running across the beach.
Leaping: Students will practice shifting
their weight from one foot to another in a jump by pretending to leap over
sharp shells on the beach.
Center
Improv: Students will think of their
favorite activity to do at the beach and perform one motion to represent that activity
to the class.
End
Reverence: Students will learn how to
reverence by shifting their weight to one side and raising their arm as if to
say goodbye to the hot sun. They will then bend over to dust the sand off their
feet.
